Scioto Scene
Project Overview
Scioto Scene is a concept for a locally-focused arts and culture magazine designed to shine a spotlight on Southern Ohio's vibrant creative community. This project is currently in the ideation and development phase, exploring how a publication could cover theatre, music, visual arts, and cultural events across the region while providing a platform for local artists, performers, and venues.
The vision combines engaging editorial content with visually striking layouts that would capture the energy and diversity of the local arts scene. Conceptual spreads explore feature stories on emerging artists, event calendars, venue spotlights, and other editorial approaches that celebrate regional creativity.
Design Approach
As the designer developing this concept, I focused on:
- Editorial Design and Layout - Exploring dynamic page layouts that balance readability with visual impact, using bold typography and imagery to reflect an artistic focus.
- Brand Identity - Developing a cohesive visual identity concept that could capture the spirit of the local arts community while maintaining professional editorial standards.
- Cover Design - Designing sample covers that demonstrate how the magazine could feature local artists and events with attention-grabbing visuals.
- Layout Experimentation - Testing different approaches to editorial spreads, typography treatments, and visual hierarchies.
Vision and Intent
If brought to fruition, Scioto Scene would serve as a dedicated platform for Southern Ohio's creative community. The magazine concept explores how thoughtful design and compelling content could help build awareness of regional talent, promote cultural events, and foster community pride in the area's arts scene. This project represents an exploration of how editorial design can celebrate and strengthen local creative communities.
